A new (and better) start in Life

So many (GOOD) things have been happening to our family lately. I’m sitting here, in somewhat of a disbelief.

I’m off my crutches and able to drive again, which is a huge blessing. I really took walking for granted. With both my right leg and ankle being broken, I had to rely on so many others, which isn’t my strong suit. But, I have so many fantastic friends in my life, I never missed a beat. I did however, gain several pounds from not moving as much. Thankfully, those seem to be dropping pretty quickly since being able to get out on my own again. I found out that I didn’t get the teaching position I was hoping for- but it turned out to be a blessing- as I’m still blogging here and with FTT working on their social media and customer service departments at home, and have joined the team at Road Trip ’13 to get the conference rolling. I’m totally in love with what I’m doing!

J finally left his job for an amazing new career with a fantastic company that values his skills. It’s so nice to have my husband come home from work in a GREAT mood. So many things were lifted off his shoulders when he gave his notice. I am so proud of him for being such an upstanding person, and doing everything he could to get the rest of his team trained before his final day. J’s new job in Cincinnati (about a 45 minute drive from us) has already changed our lives significantly. Our insurance is better, as is the pay. In the first week of his job, they announced that he is going to be receiving quite a bit of training! I can’t tell you how excited I was to find Discounts on Vistaprint Products to get everything he needed for his new job (or as we like to call it, adventure!) to fit our budget.

Speaking of budget, we changed some things around a bit, and were finally able to afford another car! It’s new to us, and we love it. It’s primarily J’s car, but it’s fun to ride around in on the weekends. We call it: Ed.

M ended her first grade year on a super-high note with a great report card. She has improved so much in the final quarter. Her academics were near-perfect, and she was essentially “released” from her behavioral plan. Her teacher thinks she’ll really mature over the summer, as she nears 8. his was such a major stress in my life. I just couldn’t convince myself enough that her behavior wasn’t an example of my parenting, no matter how many times her teacher told me that M was making the decision to act the way she did. I always worried what note I would receive in her book bag at the end of the day. But now, we tossed the book bag and are working more on authority and being quiet when asked at home. We’re hoping for an even better start to 2nd grade in a few short months.

Hi there!

Um yeah…

So remember me?

I know, I’ve been neglectful. I’ve been SUPER busy A.F.B. (Away From Blog) in the real world.

So here’s what I’ve been up to:

  • The Avengers! My family and I were guests of Disney Studios/ The Owens Group in Cincinnati for a VIP preview of the Avengers. If you haven’t seen it yet- GO. It’s the best movie I’ve seen in the past 7 years. REALLY. My daughter was SO excited about seeing it, that we had to go shopping for a new outfit for her to wear (she’s 6). It took 2 stores and about 3 hours in dressing rooms for her to finally decide on the “right look”. I was exhausted. I was also a terrible blogger because I did not take pictures. But it really wasn’t my fault as we were stripped of all our electronic devices and patted down like we were in the airport. Lemme tell you, THAT was fun ::snort::.
  • Less Debacles! I’ve been focusing on trying to get my home in working order. I’ve spent the last month purging, organizing and cleaning. I’m just all-around tired of the clutter and mess. My husband thinks it’s because I’ve matured, or he’s finally worn off on me. I have no idea which. All I know is that my house looks, feels and smells nice. I can’t complain.
  • I got sick again! Okay, so that exclamation point was for annoyance. My immune system BITES and I came down with a nasty cold that lasted about two weeks. Instead of heading to the doc, I decided to wait this one out. I’m glad I went with my gut (pun intended) and avoided the antibiotics. I pretty much did nothing but pick up my tissues. J and M took care of the rest.
  • Mother’s Day! Sucked. Let’s just leave it at that.
  • J FINALLY GOT PROMOTED!! And he got a raise. So now he’s making what he was making 3 years ago ::snort::. I know, don’t look a gift-horse in the mouth. But it’s hard not to when you know how hard your husband works, and how dedicated he is to his company. Darn loyalty (love you, babe!).
  • J is running for PTO president! He’s a nut. A handsome nut, but a nut all the same. We’ll know on Thursday if he gets it or not. On a side note, I am the worst campaign manager ever.
  • More drum lessons! M is now taking 2 drum lessons a week, for an hour each. In the concrete basement of a building that is a million years old (exaggeration). She can play 11 songs. I am thankful for being deaf. #Thatisall
  • I’m Publicity Co-Chair for our parish festival! It’s the kind of marketing I love. Community outreach for a really good cause. And next year, I’ll be head chair. I’m a bit excited. Also, they’re letting me start a Twitter page for the event. May the birds rejoice!
  • I went to Dayton Children’s! AND NOT FOR ALLERGIES! Go ahead and clap for me. I was invited to a blogger luncheon (That included cheesecake on a stick. CRA-ZAY). It was a great event that I’ll go into detail about at a later time (Dooooode, I met THE Dr. Ramey!). But for now, know that Dayton has an amazing hospital dedicated to Children. Know it. Love it. Share it.
  • I’m trying to get FamilyFriendlyDayton.com back up and running. I’m on the lookout for more templates and better layouts. I’m also on the hunt for more contributors. Interested? Contact me!
  • There are exactly 5 days of school left! 5 DAYS OF SCHOOL, PEOPLES. Take that how you wish. I’m volunteering at Field Day tomorrow at school. I hope I survive.
  • My best friend graduated from college! I am so proud of her and the journey that she has taken to get there. I love that lady. We’ve been friends since preschool (I was 4, she was 5) and I can’t imagine life without her!

So I’m sure there’s more that I’ve missed, but that was just the cliff note version. If you made it through, go get yourself a cookie. You deserve it! I’d love to hear what’s been going on in your life too- if you have a blog post I need to read, please post it in your comment!
