*I was provided a promotional item in exchange for this post.

My family and I enjoy the occasional trip to McDonald’s as a special treat, and right now they’re spreading the joy of reading through their Happy Meals!

She’s a reader!

From the site:

McDonald’s USA invites families to celebrate the joy of reading with new Happy Meal Book promotion, which will begin November 1 to coincide with National Family Literacy Day.

In collaboration with Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), the largest children’s literacy non-profit in the U.S., McDonald’s is distributing more than 20 million books in Happy Meals this November.
As part of the partnership, RIF will distribute 100,000 Happy Meal books to children who do not have easy access to books.

Between Nov. 1 and Nov. 14, children who order Happy Meals will be able to enjoy one of four different original books featuring McDonald’s Funky Farm Happy Meal characters. (At participating McDonald’s. While supplies last.) Each of the four limited-edition books brings nutrition, imagination and play to life in a way kids can understand:
“The Goat Who Ate Everything” – Tells of a goat who has a big appetite and struggles to eat right. But when he does, he feels great.
“Deana’s Big Dreams” – Shares how Deana, the world’s smallest dinosaur, grew tall by eating right.
“Ant Can’t” – Features Ant, a bite-sized bodybuilder who’s big on encouraging physical fitness through exercise and eating right.
“Doddi the Dodo Goes to Orlando” – Follows happy-go-lucky bird Doddi who travels the world. She eats right because this dodo is always on the go-go.

Also starting Nov. 1, McDonald’s will give children anytime access to reading with a fun new interactive e-book each month.
The free interactive e-books are available on McPlay™, the Happy Meal App for kids.
The first e-book introduces DK Publishing’s Amazing World Series, with The World’s Greatest Cities.
Kids will also be able to interact with a digital version of our very own title, The Goat Who Ate Everything.
The Happy Meal Books as well as the e-books will also be available for download at happymeal.com.

Happy Meals help support families and communities – a portion of proceeds from each Happy Meal sold (in the US) goes to support Ronald McDonald House Charities®. McDonald’s has supported the caring cause of RMHC® for more than 35 years.

My daughter was sent “The Goat Who Ate Everything” and “Ant Can’t”! She loved the books so much that we went to our local McDonalds and got her “Deana’s Big Dreams” (her favorite)!

And McDonald’s is giving me the opportunity to give 5 sets of books away to my readers! You read that right, I’ll have 5 winners!

*To win one of the five sets, all you have to do is tell me which book you think your kiddo might like the most!* Leave a comment below with your answer.

The winners will be chosen on Wednesday, November 20th at 10:00am EST by Random.org. Good luck, and thank you for being a Domestic Debacle reader!

Meeting Maureen Wright- Award Winning Children’s Author!

Last month, my daughter’s school hosted the award-winning children’s author Maureen Wright!

She was there to speak to the kids about the process of writing a book, from “thinking it up while doing laundry” through the “long process of editing”. She also shared her story of not giving up when so many publishers turned her down. It was such a a great message, and she presented it in a way that kindergarteners could really understand. Maureen Wright even had small activities throughout to keep the younger kiddos engaged. As you would …Continue Reading…
