Hoop De Doo Musical Review

Okay, so this dinner is 2 dining credits per person on the dining plan, and well worth it. You must see this at least once in your life. Really.
Normally, it will set you back about $50 per person without the dining plan. The beer, wine and …Continue Reading…

Lunch at Crystal Palace with Pooh and Friends

Default post image
While we were at Disney, we got to have lunch at the Crystal Palace, a beautiful (mostly glass) restaurant in the Magic Kingdom. It’s a buffet, and is one credit per person on the Disney Dining Plan. Again, the food is Disney quality and it’s hard to find something you won’t like. In fact, it had one of my favorites, the citrus marinated flank steak on the menu. Yummay!

In addition, you had the opportunity to meet Pooh and friends.

M got to see Eeyore, and in this picture (which I had to post) she was telling him that “It’ll be okay, please don’t be sad”. It was so sweet, and he lingered quite a bit at our table.

Of course, no one mentions to you that Character meals are all about timing. If you come in during the characters making their last go-around, they take a break and it can be quite some time before they come back out. We were done eating before they even got to our table. However, the wait was well worth it, and even got us out of the heat for a little bit. Just be prepared, and not surprised if they aren’t visiting you right away. Patience is key.

Jasmine is type A. And I love her for it.

First things first. I need to comment about Aladdin’s flying carpets. These were a HUGE hit with M, so much so that we rode them twice during our trip, which was the only ride we did more than once (we did hit up the Tiki Room twice, to distract M from Pirates and keep her out of the heat). This is a great ride for the adventurous little ones, because they get to control part of the ride. It not only goes up and down, but it also tilts forward and back. Which could make you sick, if you’ve just had your Dole Whip.

Now, finding out that Jasmine is not included in any of the Character meals in the Magic Kingdom, we waited in a very long (and hot- us Ohioans are just not equipped for the Florida sun) line to get her autograph.

Now Jasmine was a lady IN CHARGE. She made any child (or adult for that matter) that came through pose with her and Aladdin. And not the just stand there and smile pose, SHE would come over and put your child’s feet and hands in the place SHE thought they should be. It makes for a great photograph, and for some reason, M didn’t argue (unlike with Tink, who almost ended up with a black eye, but you’ll have to come back for that one).

So thank you Jasmine, this picture wouldn’t rock as nearly as much as it does-without you being OCD.

The morning M molested Mickey.

For our first breakfast at Disney, we chose the Contemporary’s Chef Mickey’s character breakfast.

If you are staying at a NON monorail resort, you will need to take a bus to the Magic Kingdom, then get on the monorail to arrive at the Contemporary resort (allow yourself at least 15 min for this option). Or you could just take a cab from your resort straight there like we did. It ran us $15, and the cabs are at your resort already, so you’re not waiting around.

This is one dining credit per person on the dining plan, and is a buffet. Drinks are included.

When you first walk in, they take your picture as a family, and then try to sell you an outrageously priced photo package at your table. We passed on that.

The food was pretty good. They had the famous Mickey face waffles (those taste like heaven), bacon, sausage, fruit, and various egg dishes. FYI: this was one of the locations that brought out a cupcake for M before we got to hit the buffet, so keep your eyes open if you want your kid to eat some real food before hittin’ the sugary stuff.

M was so excited to meet all the characters, and took the pressure off us to track them down in the parks for their autographs, saving us a lot of time.

She got to meet Goofy:

And Donald (who I’ve always had a little crush on):

Pluto himself:

Minnie in her FABULOUS polka dots:

And then came Mickey…

He was about to walk right on by, but M wasn’t having any of it. She grabbed the mouse by his pants and spun him around (not kidding here) then proceeded to climb up him. She grabbed his ears, yanked him down and planted a big one on him. He then took the time to give her a little mouse lovin’. And her day was made.

Again, Disney, you impress.

Disney does a birthday right.

Default post image

In my opinion, having a birthday at the “happiest place on Earth” cannot be beat. Which is why J and I chose to have M’s 4th birthday week at Disney World.
When you first check into your resort (and even before that when you book your vacation) you are asked if anyone in your party is celebrating an event. If you’re celebrating a birthday, anniversary, just married, just engaged or family reunion, you are given for FREE a button that can be personalized. If you get one of these buttons, a cast member will write your name on it with a sharpie. When they do, request that they cover the name with a piece of scotch tape. This will save you a whole-lotta headache when the rain storms come, ’cause even with a sharpie the name will run. The tape works wonders!
This is a huge ticket to getting recognized by cast members, and can sometimes score you some other freebies. In my experience, it’s also gotten us (when we were married) immediate fast passes to certain rides that you’d otherwise have to come back later on to.
At the GF 1900 Park Faire dinner, M was given small toys and large stickers by the manager, and even our waitress brought her some foil Tinker Bell stickers.

And at every. single. meal, M was given a MASSIVE cupcake. Every meal. Even breakfast. so that makes hmmmm, at least 15 cupcakes in a 5 day period. As a parent, you just have to relax and remember that the sugar will get your child through the busy day.
My only suggestion for this is to ask your server to bring he cupcake out AFTER your meal is completed. We ran into a couple of restaurants that brought it out before our meal was even served. Now, you tell me what a preschooler is going to want to eat- the cupcake in front of them, or the meal that will be out in 10 minutes?
My point exactly.
