Take a Look at My October Ipsy Bag: Alter Ego

Default post image

Curious about the Ipsy Glam Bag? Let’s start at the beginning. Ipsy was started by Youtube star Michelle Phan. Michelle and her team of stylists curate monthly bags of their favorite beauty products for you to try. Each month, subscribers receive a gorgeous glam bag with deluxe-sized samples and full-sized beauty products. (This month, I received 5 products, not including the bag.) Members are invited to watch and play along through social media with the stylists for new looks. The best part: the Ipsy Glam Bag subscription is only $10 a month, which includes shipping. It’s a total deal, as long as you’re happy with the products they send you.

This month’s Glam Bag – October 2015- was themed for “Alter Ego”, a cute way to celebrate Halloween.

On the card: “This October, transform into whoever you want to be. A little imagination and your Glam Bag are all you need. Infinite possibilities, infinite ways to express yourself.”

This month’s bag is double sided- a beautiful bright gold on one side, and a black patent on the other. It’s tall and sleek, perfect as a little clutch for a night out. I really love this one, great job Ipsy!

In this bag I received:

~AURORA Gel Effect Nail Polish in Inky Dinky (full sized): Wish you had a nail polish that had all the pros of gel polish and regular polish? Say hello to GEL EFFECT nail polish! It’s easy and convenient to use, dries super fast without a UV lamp, is extra shiny and durable, and will last up to two weeks. It can also be easily removed with polish remover! Talk about the best of both worlds.
My Thoughts: I haven’t tried it yet. As soon as I do, I’ll update my Facebook page, so stay tuned! I can say that the color is GORGEOUS and perfect for fall.
~theBalm Cosmetics Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Committed (sample size): theBalm introduces a truly loyal long-lasting liquid lipstick—Meet Matt(e) Hughes. This long-wearing formula has a comfortable matte finish with no commitment issues. This matte vanilla mint liquid lipstick is stuck on you without feeling clingy!
My Thoughts: Um, the sample size is RIDICULOUSLY small. I normally don’t mind them, but man, this thing is ti-ny. I’m seriously underwhelmed. However, the color is beautiful and I love the smell. It’s vanilla/mint, which is refreshing but doesn’t last long. As for long lasting, not so much.
~Beauty Without Cruelty Fragrance Free Hand and Body Lotion: This lotion moisturizes, softens, and protects your skin. Shea butter, jojoba and kukui nut oil combined with aloe vera soothe and replenish your skin to keep it looking youthful & vibrant.
My Thoughts: It does exactly what it says and it’s a deluxe sized sample (2 fl oz). TOTAL WIN. I love it. There’s no smell, and it moisturizes my hands without being sticky. Love love love.
~Skone Cosmetics Pretty Eyes eyeliner in Plum: Pretty Eyes automatic eyeliner pencil delivers long-lasting, rich, intensive color. Effortlessly smooth application and super creamy formula. The easy twist tip pushes product to the top so there’s no sharpening. Perfect for lining the eyes or creating wings.
My Thoughts: Full size home run. Love the color for fall, and it’s easy to smudge to make the prettiest smokey eye. I need to find out where they sell this and see if it comes in black.
~Nourish Organic Pure Hydrating Argan Face Serum: Sample .5 fl oz: This highly concentrated face treatment is designed to deeply hydrate and reveal smoother, softer and more supple skin with improved tone. Moroccan argan oil, packed with restorative omega fatty acids, intensely hydrates and replenishes. Apricot kernel oil moisturizes and softens skin while helping retain clarity. Rosehip oil smoothes skin texture and helps even out tone.
My Thoughts: It’s an oil but comes in a squeeze tube. Um, no. That’s a recipe for disaster, as my desk experienced. It smells like an orange peel. I tried it on the back of my hand and it didn’t break out, so yay for that. I’ll have to try it out over night and report back. Side note: After I got it on my hands, it was nearly impossible to stab a Capri Sun pack with a straw (hello slippery hands). Moms: take note.

In all, I think this was a GREAT bag for just $10, considering that I received 2 FULL SIZED items! The nail polish alone was worth that.

Ohio Renaissance Festival: Prepare Thyself for a Non-Stop, Weekend-Long Adventure!

Default post image

My family and I recently visited the Ohio Renaissance Festival in Harveysburg (just outside of Waynesville, near Ceasar’s Creek Park) and had a wonderful time. There was so much to do; shopping, watching the performers, attending shows, and chatting with vendors. It was a great day (with record attendance) and every one seemed so happy! We always attend every season, but this one just seemed better. There were several improvements with the grounds, as there were more vendors, games, and places to sit. There was something to do every time you turned around. We even had a “marshmallow war” at Siege the Day with our own miniature catapults (they even make them for lefties!). It was so much fun, and our whole family enjoyed it!

My daughter was thrilled to meet the Queen herself. She was a lovely woman who even recognized her later in the day. This, along with getting her hair braided, made her day. My daughter, who has been recently diagnosed with Alopecia Areata, made herself a hair bucket list (which I’ll touch more on at another time) got to check this off her list. It was so worth it! She truly felt like a princess (mom’s note: the hairstyle lasted for 3 days-so it was very well done).

There are two weekends left, both themed. This coming weekend, October 17th and 18th is Romance Weekend (from the website): Bring your sweetie to spend Sweetest Day with us! Men, look good in tights? Enter the Men in Tights Contest at the Aleing Knight Pub at 4pm to see if others agree! Ladies, show us your bloomers to win the title of Best Bloomers at the Aleing Knight Pub at 5pm. Couples can renew their vows during Mass Renewal of Vows Ceremonies held at St. Peter’s Chapel twice daily at 11:30 and 2:30.

Next weekend also the last weekend of the festival, October 24th and 25th is Tricks or Treat Weekend (from the website): Wear your costumes and bring the wee ones for trick or treating around the village. Costume contests for adults and kids and pumpkin decorating for the kids. Enjoy your favorite show, mug of ale, and delicious foods one last time because after the 25th, we’re history ‘til next year!

My advice from attending last Sunday:

-Bring lots of cash. Parking is not included, and is $3 per car. The three of us ate lunch for $29 not including drinks. You can’t bring in any outside food or drink (they’re strict on this) and do not have running water. Water bottles are $3 each, $5 for two. This can add up, and since the event is outside, you run the risk of dehydration. You can however get a stamp to leave the festival and come back, so I would pack a cooler full of water bottles, ice, and snacks (I would definitely eat there, because the food is AMAZING. The steak sandwich is my favorite, and the peppers and onions aren’t extra).

-Don’t worry if you don’t have “garb”. Jeans and t-shirts are just fine, and you won’t stand out. BUT, if you would like to dress up, there is a rental shop if you’d like for the day. If you’d prefer to purchase a costume to use for Halloween and many Ren Fests to come, there are several vendors who will be more than happy to outfit you in all sizes. You can find a list of them here to browse before you go.  Special shout-out to The Gilded Lily for my new hat!

-If your budget and schedule allows: I would plan on spending the entire weekend at the festival. There is no possible way to see all the shows, demonstrations, shopping and vendors in one day. Come back. It’s worth it. All of it.
