Spread the Joy of Reading with McDonald’s Giveaway

Default post image

*I was provided a promotional item in exchange for this post.

My family and I enjoy the occasional trip to McDonald’s as a special treat, and right now they’re spreading the joy of reading through their Happy Meals!

She's a reader!

She’s a reader!

From the site:

McDonald’s USA invites families to celebrate the joy of reading with new Happy Meal Book promotion, which will begin November 1 to coincide with National Family Literacy Day.

In collaboration with Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), the largest children’s literacy non-profit in the U.S., McDonald’s is distributing more than 20 million books in Happy Meals this November.
As part of the partnership, RIF will distribute 100,000 Happy Meal books to children who do not have easy access to books.

Between Nov. 1 and Nov. 14, children who order Happy Meals will be able to enjoy one of four different original books featuring McDonald’s Funky Farm Happy Meal characters. (At participating McDonald’s. While supplies last.) Each of the four limited-edition books brings nutrition, imagination and play to life in a way kids can understand:
“The Goat Who Ate Everything” – Tells of a goat who has a big appetite and struggles to eat right. But when he does, he feels great.
“Deana’s Big Dreams” – Shares how Deana, the world’s smallest dinosaur, grew tall by eating right.
“Ant Can’t” – Features Ant, a bite-sized bodybuilder who’s big on encouraging physical fitness through exercise and eating right.
“Doddi the Dodo Goes to Orlando” – Follows happy-go-lucky bird Doddi who travels the world. She eats right because this dodo is always on the go-go.

Also starting Nov. 1, McDonald’s will give children anytime access to reading with a fun new interactive e-book each month.
The free interactive e-books are available on McPlay™, the Happy Meal App for kids.
The first e-book introduces DK Publishing’s Amazing World Series, with The World’s Greatest Cities.
Kids will also be able to interact with a digital version of our very own title, The Goat Who Ate Everything.
The Happy Meal Books as well as the e-books will also be available for download at happymeal.com.

Happy Meals help support families and communities – a portion of proceeds from each Happy Meal sold (in the US) goes to support Ronald McDonald House Charities®. McDonald’s has supported the caring cause of RMHC® for more than 35 years.

My daughter was sent “The Goat Who Ate Everything” and “Ant Can’t”! She loved the books so much that we went to our local McDonalds and got her “Deana’s Big Dreams” (her favorite)!

And McDonald’s is giving me the opportunity to give 5 sets of books away to my readers! You read that right, I’ll have 5 winners!

*To win one of the five sets, all you have to do is tell me which book you think your kiddo might like the most!* Leave a comment below with your answer.

The winners will be chosen on Wednesday, November 20th at 10:00am EST by Random.org. Good luck, and thank you for being a Domestic Debacle reader!

It’s that time of year- Keep Your Germs, I Want To Travel!

oof. These past two weeks have been a bit of a doozy. The kiddo has been fighting this nasty cold/virus/strep B for awhile now, and it’s finally catching up to us. The hubs (lucky dog) has been out of town for training in Fort Lauderdale, and hear him tell it, it’s paradise. He sent me pics from his adventure, and I must say, I was pretty jealous, but also happy for him to be able to experience it.

Here are pictures:

Dineroutside

Yeah, I was jealous, but in a totally good way.

Look at those floors. LOOK AT THEM!

M and I try to go with him when he heads out of town, but with her being sick, there was no way we were going to hop on a plane. You’re welcome, healthy people! But interesting thing happened while he was gone, kiddo was journaling. Which resulted in me having a broken heart:

Break my heart, little miss.

Break my heart, little miss.

Don’t you just love her chat boxes?

We made it through the week alive (and I’m sure with a very expensive doctor bill in the process) and the hubs is finally home.

And now, I’m fighting a sore throat. I’m just thankful that I was healthy enough to take care of the kiddo while we were by ourselves (with the help of some great friends!).

My friend Tiff brought be a couple hats (and some meds for the kiddo, not shown here)- first one shown here (the second will be saved for another post)

SnowWhiteHat

Me, no makeup but in a SNOW WHITE inspired hat! LOVE

Girly knows me, because I cannot RESIST anything Snow White! She’s crazy talented, and I am so thankful for her friendship. And my friend Tallise, who knows how to brighten anyone’s day (through their stomach, duh!) made us an incredible Smore’s Cake.

SmoresCake

YUM. I ate half of it on my own. What else am I supposed to do??

It was the most delicious and moist cake I’ve ever had. And we all know, chocolate can cure anything (especially the mommy home with a sick kid blues). Best. Cake. Ever. And I pretty much had it all to myself.

And now that the kiddo has been on antibiotics for a few days, we’re headed in to get her second expander put in today. Poor girl, can’t catch a break!
