Trying to stay sane this summer. Trying.

We’re four days deep into summer vacation, and I already feel like I’m going to lose my mind. Not kidding.

You see, I work at home and I have a daughter who is 1) gifted and 2) extroverted.

In other words, my complete opposite. Now don’t get me wrong, I love my daughter with all of my heart, and she IS my little buddy. BUT we’re like oil and water when we spend too much time together. I guess this is one of the pit-falls of having an only child. Her need to be entertained, and my need to be left alone (occasionally or pretty often depending upon how you look at it) just don’t mix. I remember BP (before Preschool) how tough it was. But I figured this summer will be different because she’s old enough (7 and entering 2nd grade) to entertain herself, right? WRONG. If anything she just wants to know more and have even more interaction.

I’m going to be doing a few things this week to kinda set up our summer. On the computer, I’m creating links to some of my favorite educational websites (Quaver Music and First in Math) and adding links to some of her favorite “fun” sites like Monster High, Barbie and American Girls.

IRL (0r in real life, for those of you looking at those letters thinking something entirely different) I’m signing her up for nearly every library program. We are so fortunate for having this in our area. We’re also continuing with her drum lessons, something she loves. Then there’s the Kids Bowl Free program, which I am a huge fan of. We actually sign up for this every summer, and it’s become a tradition for our family to get the family pass. At this point, I’m also looking into a Boonshoft Museum Membership. I think she’d really like it, and it’s a nice and COOL place to hang out in. Plus, she loves the bats. I also love this list from SavingsLifestyle.com of things to do in Dayton on the cheap this summer.

Has your summer started yet? And have you found that you need to make plans? I’d love some insight from y’all. And if you have any suggestions of “must dos” in the Ohio/Kentucky/Indiana area, I’d love to hear them!
