WHIO-TV Endorses Local Rapist- the REAL War on Women

Default post image

This is one of those moments, as a blogger, where you have to get “dirty” for lack of a better word. I hate bringing negativity here, but this time, I’m making an exception.

One of our news stations WHIO-TV in Dayton, Ohio ran a piece on a gun-control demonstration at a recent gun-show. You can watch the video here. The man interviewed as the “gun-control advocate” was Jerome McCorry, a “Reverend” here in Dayton who runs the Adam Project. He’s also a convicted rapist. By Ohio law, he’s a felon. And by Ohio law, he isn’t allowed to posses a firearm. This lovely tid-bit of information was brought to my attention by Buckeye Firearms.

So I called WHIO out on their Facebook page, wondering what they were thinking. I have absolutely no problem with WHIO speaking with someone who is for gun-control (I’m not for gun-control, and I’m not going to discuss that further here either, so mosey on by if you’re looking for a fight) but interviewing someone for a TV segment who is a RAPIST is not the person to talk to about taking away someone else’s rights. He’s been there, he’s done that and he got the orange jump-suit to prove it.

WHIO’s response? Well, I’ll let you read that for yourself. Fair warning: have a puke-bucket near by.

WHIO TV Dayton Ohio calls rapist’s work peaceful and non-violent

I was shocked. How could they, the media, use their bias to influence their viewership? Why is WHIO claiming that a rapist is endorsed by our local law enforcement? This brings up a whole new discussion. Are women safe in Dayton? Are the police going to take rape claims seriously, if they are known by the media to endorse rapists?

But by the time I had heard about this, Dana Loesch (an amazing, influential woman with conservative views and nearly 100,000 followers- check out her blog here) had already been all over it on Twitter. So when I joined in, WHIO took notice. And then they responded:

WHIO responds to us, by back-tracking

I wonder if WHIO thinks that his message was peaceful and harmonious when he was raping his defenseless victim?

And you know, my title is also a little biased on this one. Dayton Daily News and WKEF ABC22 FOX45 also interviewed this man, and failed to disclose his background. They all had a hand in this. Not one of them has made a statement.

Simply put, gun control is not about reducing violence. It’s about control. Just like rape isn’t about sex. It’s about control. Which makes sense for Jerome McCorry, a rapist, to be advocating for gun control. It’s up to our media how they portray an individual.

I just ask you, my reader to think of it like this: If this man was your daughter’s rapist, would you be happy to hear how he is portrayed in the media? I’m guessing not.

Cleaning Quickly

Default post image

Okay, so this is a little late. On December 20th, I was on our local 12:00 news WDTN (Channel 2 for those in Dayton) to share my tips on how to clean quickly for Christmas. Well, it’s no where near Christmas anymore, but these tips work even on days where you find yourself in a time-crunch. I also did the segment with the talented Jim Bucher (of Bucher’s Beat) and had a great time. Check it out!

How to organize your makeup

Default post image

*Updated to add that I also had this post featured on WDTN’s Living Dayton!

I have to admit, I’m a total makeup junkie. Over the past year, I’ve fallen in love with more and more Mary Kay products, that I outgrew my little travel case. I was at a loss as to how I should store my makeup. If you do a search on the internet, you’ll be overwhelmed with over 2,650,000 results. Not only that, but makeup organizers can cost you HUNDREDS of dollars and are really only good for that purpose. In my effort to be a little more organized and “thrifty” in 2013, I came up with an idea that not only works brilliantly, but is also super inexpensive. So, without further ado- I introduce you to my make up organizer, the Flambeau Tackle T4 Multi-Loader Tackle Box (I’m a big fan of Flambeau– they’ve got a great small range bag if you’re in the market for one). I paid $28.99 at Wal-Mart, but you can also order it through Amazon.

It’s small (12” H x 13.7” W x 10.7”)- but the storage it offers is smart. To tell you the truth, my husband thought I was a little bonkers with this purchase. I was in Wal-Mart going through all the tackle boxes they had trying to fit my lipstick in each case until I found THE box. He thought it was pretty funny, but as soon as I started filling it he could see where I was going with my vision.

So here’s the start- my tacklebox makeup organizer has a nice see-through top compartment that fits my samples, eye pencil sharpeners, special-edition blushes and Mary Kay Nourishine lip glosses easily!

Then you open the top lid, and you’ve got a ton of shelf-space for some of your odd-shaped makeup, like your gel eyeliners, compact, nail polishes and mineral foundation. The area is the back is very deep, and it’s where I keep my compact pros (eye shadows and blushes), makeup brushes (in the black fabric roll) and lip box.

The lip box (Or what I refer to as the lip box, is actually supposed to be used for large lures. I thought that was funny.) is one of my favorite customizable features. The tackle box actually came with this insert, and the little blue dividers.

Then you’ve got your front compartment. It came with two slide out boxes and small dividers. There’s also a compartment area to the left- I’ve used it to store my extra dividers and larger lip-color samples.

This by far has to be my favorite way of storing my tweezers, brow liners, brow gels, Mary Kay eyeliners, eye primers and mascaras.

So there you have it! My inexpensive and easy way to store your makeup.

My version of Cool Whip’s Eclair Cake (psst- it tastes better!)

Default post image

Growing up, Cool Whip’s Eclair Cake was my absolute favorite dessert. For someone who isn’t that big on “sweets” (except for dark chocolate, if you have some, feel free to send it on ova!) this is a big deal. Instead of birthday cakes, I typically asked for an eclair cake. It’s delicious- but I have a couple of simple tricks to make it taste even better, and easier to make. However, my version came out a little bit messier than Cool Whip’s featured photo (um, hello preeety!)- but I guarantee you’re going to want to make my modifications! It’s all about the taste, am I right?

Here are the ingredients for MY version:

1 box Honey Maid Honey Graham crackers
1 pkg (it’s a 4 person serving size) JELL-O French Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding
1-3/4 cups cold milk
1 tub (8 oz.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping original, COMPLETELY thawed

1/2 can of Betty Crocker Chocolate Frosting

Layer graham crackers in the bottom of an ungreased 9×13 pan.You will have to break some to get complete coverage. Think of this as putting all of those puzzle making skills to work!

Whisk the milk and package of french vanilla pudding on high for 2 minutes. Gently fold in Cool Whip. Using half of the mixture, evenly spread on top of grahams. Add another layer of grahams, then top with remaining pudding/Cool Whip mixture. Top with one more layer of grahams. Melt the Betty Crocker chocolate frosting in a microwave-safe bowl for 20-25 seconds (should be just runny). Pour the frosting over the graham crackers, using the back of a spoon to smooth it out. Top should be completely covered in chocolate frosting. Refrigerate for at least 5 hours before serving.Refrigerate any leftovers.

The graham crackers will become this ooey-gooey deliciousness that reminds me of eating an eclair, and the French Vanilla pudding adds a richness that you just wouldn’t get from plain vanilla pudding. The recipe originally called for Baker’s Chocolate frosting, but hey, ‘aint nobody got time for that!
