Monster High- building self-esteem through new online activity!

As a mom to a 6 year-old girl, I know the importance of encouraging her strengths and uniqueness. In our society, being different isn’t celebrated enough. I knew when M was a toddler, she had very different tastes (Not just food- but the girl gravitated to some weird things. Skulls at 2 anyone?) and views. I was/am so worried that society would influence her to go more towards the “norm”, that I make sure that she was encouraged to be, act, feel and think however she wants to. And I am SO glad that Monster High does the exact same thing. I love that their message is truly being different isn’t weird. In fact, with Monster High it’s celebrated (You should really check out their Monster High Create-A-Monster Vampire and Sea Monster Starter Set if you’re really in the mood to get creative-my daughter LOVES it.).

Monster High and WeStopHate introduced a new online activity, inviting girls to take back the mirror and celebrate their imperflections, on the newest iteration of www.FreakyFab13.com.

The interactive online experience encourages girls to resurrect a positive self-reflection by re-writing how they view themselves – from the inside out. Girls are invited to take or upload a photo of themselves to the online mirror. Then, they are given a series of positive, monsterfied sayings that they can apply to their mirror, print out or save to celebrate their imperflections™.

As part of the larger WeStopHate/Monster High partnership – originally announced in May – the brand also announced a pro-social partnership with Wal-Mart.  Walmart joins Monster High® in its efforts to build self-esteem among girls via special displays at more than 1,500 Walmart stores across the country. In addition, Walmart.com will also feature self-esteem building downloadable activities as well as special Monster High® and WeStopHate animated content that highlights the importance of positive self-esteem.

The activity is SO much fun, and when you’re finished you can download it. My daughter and I have done this several times together, and absolutely love it!


Disney Junior announces production of NEW 7D series dedicated to the 7 Dwarfs!







Accessing a classic fairytale and finding new ways to bring it to audiences, Disney Television Animation has begun production on the new animated series “The 7D,” a comedic take on the world of Seven Dwarfs, this time in a contemporary storybook world designed for viewers age 2-7 and their families. The series is slated to debut in 2014 on Disney Junior channels and programming blocks around the world.  The announcement was made on June 19, 2012 by Nancy Kanter, Senior Vice President, Original Programming and General Manager, Disney Junior Worldwide.


The executive producer is Emmy Award-winning Tom Ruegger (“Animaniacs”).  Alfred Gimeno (“Tiny Toon Adventures”) is the director and Sherri Stoner (“Pinky and the Brain”) is the story editor. The characters are designed by Noah Z. Jones (“Fish Hooks”).


Kanter said, “Our goal for Disney Junior is to engage kids with stories and characters that represent the very best of Disney storytelling. With ‘The 7D,’ we look to continue Walt Disney’s legacy of reinterpreting classic folk and fairy tales in ways that delight new audiences. We’re excited to re-imagine these familiar characters and put them in a new humorous setting that we think will entertain kids and parents alike.”


The series takes place in the whimsical world of Jollywood, where Queen Delightful relies on the 7D – Happy, Bashful, Sleepy, Sneezy, Dopey, Grumpy and Doc – to keep the kingdom in order. Standing in their way are two laughably evil villains, Grim and Hildy Gloom, who plot to take over the kingdom by stealing the magical jewels in the 7D’s mine. With seven very distinct personalities, the 7D always manage to save the day and send Grim and Hildy running back to their evil lair to try another day.


Disney Junior reflects the emotional connection generations of consumers have to Disney storytelling and Disney characters, both classic and contemporary. It invites mom and dad to join their child in the Disney experience of magical, musical and heartfelt stories and characters, while incorporating specific learning and development themes designed for kids age 2-7. Disney Junior’s series blend Disney’s unparalleled storytelling and characters kids love deeply with learning, including early math, language skills, healthy eating and lifestyles, and social skills. Disney Junior launched in February 2011 with a daily programming block on Disney Channel. In its first year, Disney Junior posted the network’s biggest yearly audience in the daypart in Total Viewers, Kids 2-5, Boys 2-5 and Women 18-49, increasing by double-digit margins among preschooler demographics over year-ago levels. On March 23, 2012 Disney Junior added a cable and satellite channel in the U.S. bringing the total number of channels to 30 worldwide.

Angelina Jolie is MALEFICENT!

Burbank, CA  (June 19, 2012) – The Walt Disney Studios announced today that production began Wednesday, June 13th, on “Maleficent,” starring Academy Award®–winning actress Angelina Jolie.

Directed by two-time Oscar®-winning production designer Robert Stromberg (“Avatar,” “Alice in Wonderland”), in his directorial debut, and produced by Joe Roth, “Maleficent” is written by Linda Woolverton (“The Lion King,” “Beauty and the Beast”) and executive produced by Angelina Jolie, Don Hahn, Matt Smith and Palak Patel.

Co-starring in the film are Sharlto Copley (“District 9”), Elle Fanning (“Super 8”), Sam Riley (“On the Road”), Imelda Staunton (“Vera Drake”), Miranda Richardson (“The Hours”), Juno Temple (“Atonement”) and Lesley Manville (“Secrets & Lies”).

This is the untold story of Disney’s most beloved villain, Maleficent, from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” The film reveals the events that hardened her heart and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora.

Behind-the-scenes talent includes Academy Award®–winning cinematographer Dean Semler (“Dances with Wolves,” “In the Land of Blood and Honey”), production designer Gary Freeman (“Saving Private Ryan,” “The Bourne Supremacy”), two-time Oscar® nominated costume designer Anna B. Sheppard (“Schindler’s List,” “The Pianist”) and seven-time Academy Award–winning makeup artist Rick Baker (“Planet of the Apes,” “Men in Black”).

“Maleficent” is scheduled for a March 14, 2014 release in 3D.
