Parenting struggles with a strong-willed child.

I don’t know what has gotten into my 5 year-old lately. She seems like a different person.

Within the past 3-4 weeks, she’s been throwing some MAJOR temper tantrums over little things.

Like today, she knows that she’s not allowed to jump on beds.

Needless to say that when I got out of the shower this morning, I caught her jumping on my bed.I asked her if she knew she wasn’t supposed to do it. Her answer was “Yes. I know I’m not to.”

Um, okay.

Then why are you?

Her thought was that she wanted to.

And therefor it was alright.

So I told her to go into time-out.

She looked me in the eye and said “no”.

I repeated myself.

She said “no” again.

And the tantrum began. She started screaming, telling me she hates me, that I’m the worst mom ever, and so on.

The thing is, we have another Disney vacation scheduled for her birthday in September.

We feel that she doesn’t deserve it with her recent actions,  but if we cancel, we’re out of money.

And out of a vacation.

And that’s punishment for all of us.

So, if you were in my situation, how would you handle this?

I feel like we’ve given her so many options to correct her behavior. She is so stubborn and has attitude issues.

I’m frankly at a loss here. Normally, I wouldn’t put this on the blog, but I really do need suggestions.

*Please don’t offer any suggestions regarding corporal punishment. We do not spank or hit, nor do we believe in it.
